The Goods and Services Tax (GST) Council has officially announced the schedule for its 56th meeting, which will be held in New Delhi on 3rd and 4th September 2025.
The Office Memorandum (F.No. 956/56thMeetingGSTCouncil/GSTCS/2025) dated 22nd August 2025, issued by the GST Council Secretariat, has laid down the exact dates and timings for the meetings, along with preparatory discussions to be conducted by officers.
The notification confirms that the Council meeting will be held over two days in New Delhi, beginning from 11:00 A.M. onwards each day.
The meetings will be attended by the Hon’ble Members of the GST Council, which includes the Union Finance Minister and State Finance Ministers, who together deliberate on key policy issues relating to GST.
In addition to the main Council sessions, the memorandum also specifies that an Officers’ Meeting will be conducted prior to the 56th GST Council Meeting. This meeting is scheduled for:
The Officers’ Meeting generally precedes the main Council deliberations to discuss technical and procedural aspects, ensuring that the Council receives well-prepared proposals and inputs during its sessions.
The memorandum highlights that the venue of the meeting and the detailed agenda items for both the Officers’ Meeting and the 56th GST Council Meeting will be communicated separately in due course of time.
This ensures that all members and officers have adequate time to review the official agenda and prepare accordingly for discussions.
The memorandum also includes a formal request for the Hon’ble Members of the GST Council to kindly accept the invitation and attend the 56th GST Council Meeting scheduled on 3rd and 4th September 2025.
